Google Unleashes Gemini 3 Flash |
Remember when "flash" just meant a security risk in your browser?
Google aggressively shipped Gemini 3 Flash, a speed-optimized sibling of its flagship Gemini 3 Pro. Built for lightning response and agentic workflows, the model slots competitively into the new Gemini 3 lineup.
Available today in Vertex AI, Google Antigravity, Gemini CLI, AI Studio, and as the default in the Gemini app and Search's AI Mode, Flash handles text, code, and images. Crucially, it rivals GPT-5.2 in multimodal reasoning while pricing itself at just $0.50 per million input tokens.
|
Most surprisingly, Flash scored 78% on the SWE-bench Verified coding test, actually beating its "smarter" sibling, Gemini 3 Pro.
Early testers, including Salesforce, Figma, and JetBrains, praise its latency for complex agentic coding loops and rapid prototyping.
Why it matters: OpenAI just declared "code red" over Gemini 3 Pro, and Google is twisting the knife. By putting a model that is faster and cheaper (yet somehow better at coding) into the hands of billions via Search, Google isn't just resetting cost expectations—it's trying to drown GPT-5.2 in sheer distribution.

5 Last-Minute Tech Deals Worth Grabbing on Amazon |
Santa called; your smart home wants an upgrade. Prime shipping may be shrinking, but Amazon is still cutting prices on its own gadgets if you need a quick, reliable gift that ships fast.
The all-new Echo Show 8 is $159.99, adding a larger 8.7-inch screen and clearer vocals for video calls that don't turn you into Minecraft pixels.
The new Kindle Colorsoft 16 GB trims down to $189.99, pairing a magazine-friendly Colorsoft display with a battery that coasts for weeks (not days like a tablet). |
Fire TV Stick 4K Max is now $39.99, unlocking Xbox Game Pass streaming and an ambient art mode that won't hijack your living-room bandwidth.
Belkin's BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1 stand slides to $99.99, powering iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods without cable spaghetti.
And Ring's Battery Doorbell Plus rings in at $79.99 (47% off), so you can spot porch pirates in Head-to-Toe HD+ before they sprint. Consider it Amazon's version of last-minute gift wrap; no bows required. |

Cisco Zero-Day Lets Hackers Hijack Email Gateways |
Cisco says UAT-9686, a Chinese advanced persistent threat (APT) group, has been abusing an unpatched, max-severity flaw (CVE-2025-20393) in Secure Email Gateway and Secure Email and Web Manager appliances since at least late November.
The bug allows root-level commands only when the optional Spam Quarantine interface is enabled and exposed online, allowing attackers to drop lightweight Python backdoors, tunnel traffic, and scrub evidence using a log-cleaning utility. |

Cisco's Secure Email Cloud remains safe, but on-premises boxes may need complete rebuilds.
Until patches land, Cisco urges admins to block public access, isolate management interfaces, enforce MFA via SAML/LDAP, and open a TAC case for compromise checks.
Pro tip: If your quarantine portal shows up on Shodan, cancel your weekend plans. |
Surprise Pixel Patch Fixes Battery, Touch Bugs |
Google has slipped out an extra Pixel update just days before the holidays, surprising 8‑, 9‑, and 10‑series owners with a crucial ~25 MB download. This small update follows the December Feature Drop and the regular security patch shipped earlier this month.
Verizon's freshly posted changelog explains why: the patch kills a runaway battery‑drain bug, fixes intermittent touch failures that bedeviled specifically Pixel 10 screens, and corrects a glitch that blocked offline media and maps after jumping straight from Android 14 to 16. The OTA keeps the December security level, so install promptly to save your battery over the break. |
OpenAI Opens ChatGPT App Directory to Developers |
ChatGPT now sports an in-chat app directory, rebranding its utilitarian "Connectors" (think Google Drive and Microsoft 365) as "Apps" and mixing them in with Photoshop, Spotify, Booking.com, DoorDash, Apple Music, Dropbox, and Zillow.
Find an app in the "Explore apps" page and hit "Connect." Then, type @appname in a chat, and the bot can spin up playlists, book rooms, or turn recipe ideas into a grocery cart without ever toggling tabs. |
On the developer side, OpenAI's Apps SDK is wide open for submissions. Builders get a review queue, ready-made UI components, and an audience of more than 800 million users if they pass stringent privacy, safety, and data-minimization checks. While the big partners are live now, OpenAI says the broader wave of indie apps will start rolling out early next year. There's no fee split yet; devs may link out for physical goods transactions, while OpenAI says it is "exploring ... monetization options" for digital offerings. Even so, the move nudges ChatGPT toward super-app status and hands companies a brand-new distribution channel just as mobile fatigue sets in.
At least now you can procrastinate inside one chat window instead of twelve. |
